With The StoryGraph, there are two ways to read with friends: buddy reads and readalongs.

A buddy read is typically a smaller group - up to 15 people - reading a book together. You can leave comments at any page/point in the book.

A readalong is typically a larger group - up to 1000 people, but you can control the numbers - where the host has set up forums in advance which serve as checkpoints to discuss the book when you reach that point.

Which is better depends on the size of the group, type of book, the sort of discussion you want to have, etc! Readalongs can be handy for smaller groups who are wanting to check in at the end of each chapter, or perhaps for discussing short story/essay collections.

You can start a buddy read or a readalong from any book's page. If you're using the app, click the three-dot menu and then click 'Start readalong' or 'Start buddy read'. If you're using the website, these links can be found on the right-hand side of the book page:

The ability to search, sort and filter live public readalongs will be coming soon, and we'll also show you any live public readalongs on a book's page! :-)
